EXAMPLES OF LITERARY DEVICES

Literary devices make reading and writing more interesting.  Mrs. Rose assigned a project to her sixth graders where they had to make a video explaining four literary devices: simile, personification, idiom, alliteration. A simile is a comparison of two things using like or as; for example 'as busy as a bumble bee' or 'as flat as a pancake'.  Personification is giving human traits to non-human things; for example 'the trees waved at the sun' and 'the grass danced in the wind'.  You will have to watch the videos to find out about alliteration and idiom.
